An Opinion: #TheResistance

As we know, via social media and rallies on the streets, since the 2016 presidential election there has been an invincible upsurge of people uniting for a patriotic cause in the United States. This cause has been televised, re-tweeted, liked, publicized, criticized by many of those who either agree or hate it. The resistance: An up rise that implode among the masses of Americans who felt cheated and dismayed by the results of the 2016 presidential election. Well, considering cheated and dismayed sound like timid, soft words to describe the rebuttal against Donald Trump has been difficult to fathom for many Americans. Despondent and disheartened fit the description of the overwhelming shock millions feel months later. Undoubtedly, with the resistance, it has really shown such an outcry of millions of patriotic and devoted Americans who want to uphold the sanctity of our nation's values and, most importantly, it democracy. With the resistance it seems that democracy will not subside or diminish any time soon which is reassuring for the millions who love to present our honorable and symbolic red, white and blue.

Another note to mention is the resistance symbolizes that demagoguery and blatant hatred does not belong on our homeland. Collectively, we all have fought for our rights, whether directly or indirectly, they have mattered to us for a plethora of reasons. Why would we want our rights stomped on or tarnished? With that, because of his pure ignorance, it does not constitute or determine that we the people should be governed by fear-mongering foolishness, and looming intentions alluding to a dictator, which he has yet to learn the basics about governing our country, prior to his "win" on election day. Civics 101 would have come handy prior to his bid in the campaign race. In a way it heeds a golden rule of respect: "Treat others the way you want to be treated". In the least, if he had treated us with respect right off the start then maybe the tension would not feel so heavy, but it seems his approach showed otherwise to Americans. Frustration does not fully describe nor encompass how millions of people feel, and there is no justification of why it would describe our feelings. Another thought, livid fits another descriptive words rather than frustration. What we can elaborate is our fears of the unknown, and several of the unfortunate prevalent trends of threats from hate groups and appalling hate speech among innocent people.

Despite all the gruesome verbal arguments in public during protests or on social media platforms, it seems that the resistance will never surrender which brings reassurance, and oddly enough relief, because the fact that this example of his (D.T.'s) petulance and demagoguery has helped us exercise our rights of free speech and assembly and freedom press to expose the abnormality of it. His "presidency" has presented abhorrent examples of what not to do as a president, but what to do when encountered by this -- to resist. The resistance marks an milestone in our U.S. history regardless of opposition or misunderstanding. In all, the resistance is a strong-hold of what it means to defy him (D.T.) and his "presidency". Another thing that is certain, never disgrace country and its integrity because its citizens who live on homeland will advise that we will not let him dismantle it.

Stamping the Pathway: Women Plant Historical Marks

Personal note: Just to start, the topic of Women’s History Month is challenging, to balance the message and relevance of this piece, because of the fact that March has gained recognition as Women’s History Month, dated back in 1978. Throughout the course of history, an abundance of women mobilized during experiences, instances that confronted adversity based upon gender, race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class and other classes within the societal umbrella. Respectively, many compassionate women acted as trailblazers even as many contenders questioned their integrity and intentions. However, it is certain that many women remained persistent and pushed the limits to share awareness. Another personal note: as a plethora of women have declared and acted toward powerful moments of our history, they have transcended above the fray. Personally, I admire women who defend their rights as they strive for a world of equality. From Jane Fonda, Oprah Winfrey, Gloria Steinem, Madeline Alb...

University textbooks prices can get expensive

Students who attend already know there are many expenses to pay off such as loans, tuition, room and board fees and to top it off, dreaded textbooks. Obviously, buying college textbooks can be essential for college students while enrolled in courses; however they may view buying textbooks as a penny-pinching experience. A vast majority of college students would agree, buying textbooks for classes can be a hassle; but many of us do it anyway. When professors assign textbooks for courses many students comply because they should help us learn coursework and pass classes. Although a main con of buying textbooks is sky-high prices, are there alternative resources when purchasing them? The answers maybe just near our fingertips. A few resources upon suggestion: The Chegg website is a textbook website where textbooks can be rented and shipped to a mailing address. It could be a good resource considering it allows students to rent textbooks and then mail them back to the sender. Another w...

The Inevitable -- Original Poem

It was meant to happen Someone or something unexpected  It interrupts you, discourages you It was meant to happen It has changed you, your life It has made you live for more Someone or something that was meant for you You yearn to know the reason But it remains unknown, hidden It was meant to happen It confuses you, frustrated you It has angered you, enticed you Made you feel defeated But you never gave up You strived to learn more You remained persistent, never gave up It was meant to happen Someone or something unexpected has occurred to you Don't let it go You will know it soon enough It was the inevitable
